Reflection: Slide Lecture

Project 3:

Project 3 has similar dramatic lights and shadows to my model. The lighting is simple, yet are able to project interesting and dramatic shadows. Similar to project 3, i have altered the brightness of my lights, which heighten the dramatic shadows. Similar to my model, Project 3 also has very angular shapes, and has a "maze" quality in the distance of the images. This project has a modern feel about it, from the use of their simplistic textures. I have tried to keep to a "modern" design through my textures, lighting and materials.

5 Final Images

The overall space was intentionally designed with high walls. The overall space intentionally resembles a "maze" structure, to support Alfred Nobels "thousands of ideas". It has also intentionally been designed with multiple stories to emphasize Jacques-Yves Cousteau's approach to his words, "beneath the surface" and "bolted to the earth". Glass railings have been created around the entire outside space, and along the ramps to ensure the players don't fall off the edges. It also creates an "outside room" environment.

The ramp around the outside space curl around Alfred Nobel's space, this creates a sense of space as the ramp overlooks the view of the city. This ramp also weaves through his space in order to connect all levels of his space.

The ramp connecting from Jacques-Yves Cousteau's space to the outside line the walls of the space "inside" of wall. By putting the ramp against the wall i have maximised the space. This ramp connects to the outside space, creating another ramp connecting to the meeting space.

I have kept to mostly earthy tones for the lighting for the "outside" space (designed for Alfred Nobel), trying to avoid bright/fluorescent lighting. Inside the wall, ive tried to also keep to light tones for the lighting, keeping to light blues, greens and white, to create a "modern" feel to the space. Natural materials have been used overall to the entire space to create a "natural" and "calming" atmosphere.

Final Spaces

Meeting Space:

I designed the meeting space to be modern, with plain white walls and simple lighting, coming from the walkway. I intentionally only lit up half the room, with the one light coming through from the walkway to keep to the simplistic and modern inspiration for this room.

Alfred Nobel:"If i have a thousand ideas and only one turns out to be good, i am satisfied"

This space is design for Alfred Nobel. I've designed this space with alot of different rooms and platforms to illustrate his collection of many ideas. I've used warm colours in this space, which creates a welcoming atmosphere for research and invention.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau:"From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to the earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free"

This space is designed for Jacques-Yves Cousteau. One of his ideas metaphorically explores the freedom he feels when he dives beneath the water while undertaking his research. I have designed his studio as a multi-story studio, to resemble the transition from above to below the surface. I've created a cooling and calming atmosphere from the blue lights in the "below surface" space. And created a clean, natural feel in his "above ground" space. I've used earthy materials for the ground and walls as it has both the earthy aspect of Jacques-Yves cousteau idea and creates an interesting effect when the coloured lights are applied to them.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau: "From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to the earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free"

Alfred Nobel: "If i have a thousand ideas and only one turns out to be good, i am satisfied"

Mash: "Bolted beneath earth surface, sink thousand good ideas, satisfaction, free."
